Billy Nershi Incident

We took a little trip off the mountain yesterday braving the weather(rainy turning to snow later) in the new Envoy with our friends Kevin and Angela to Placerville. We had heard early last week that String Cheese Incident was dis-banding and that Billy Nershi was touring with his wife and a guitarist/mandolin player/singer from Oregon named Scott Law as Honkytonk Homeslice. After trying unsuccessfully to obtain tickets online and decided with our track record for getting into shows we would wing it and get tickets at the door(supposedly sold out). We pulled into the lot of the Cozmic Cafe in Placerville, a very old building from the gold rush days with a real mineshaft in the back of the place, and a very cool and intimate room upstairs for the show. After a sweet opening set by a couple of local pickers from Placerville, Billy and company hit the stage and did some wonderful new music along with a SCI song tossed in, it was a really nice evening of mostly accoustic (they did throw in a little bass and electric dobro and guitar) and produced some very fine three part harmonies in the songs presented. Jillian Nershi must have listened to a few Emmylou Harris cd's because her influence was evident in her singing. All in all it was a very fine evening of music.
